These 10 apps got me through lunch today

smartphone apps

If you’re still using your smartphone to only make phone calls, it’s time to start installing and using some apps. Case in point, here’s the breakdown of my lunch appointment today:

I used the built-in calendar app (1) to verify the start time of my lunch appointment.

I used the Waze app (2) for navigation to the restaurant.

I listened to an audibook on the way using the Audible app (3).

I checked into the restaurant using the Foursquare app (4).

After the lunch start time passed and no one had showed up, I rechecked my calendar app and realized I read the wrong time and my lunch didn’t start for another hour (my fault, not the calendar).

So, I used the Facebook app (5) to browse my Facebook feed for a while.

I switched over to the Team Stream by Bleacher Report app (6) to catch up on my sports teams.

Then, I decided to go for a walk to kill some time so I fired up the Map My Walk app (7) to track my distance.

Unfortunately, my good intentions were thwarted when I found a hand-made chocolate shop along my route. I went inside, bought 6 truffles, and used the Instagram app (8) to snap a photo to let others know I was in chocolate heaven.

When I completed my walk, I used the Fitbit app (9) to see how many steps I logged.

Back to the restaurant, still with 15 minutes to kill, when a friend messaged through the Facebook Messenger app (10) with an issue she needed help with. We chatted for a few minutes and I offered up a couple suggestions to hopefully fix the problem.

Before I knew it, my lunch companions arrived and we spent the next hour or so talking about… you guessed it—smartphones.
