Enjoy personal 3D movies with the BlitzWolf VR Glasses Virtual Reality Headset

I’ll be honest with you. Up until this review, I had never worn a virtual reality headset. In fact, I was a little confused as to how the lesser expensive models, like the BlitzWolf VR Glasses Virtual Reality Headset in this review, even worked.

About the headset

First, let me get you up to speed on how the BlitzWolf VR Glasses Virtual Reality Headset works. The headset straps on to the top of your head with a goggle-like contraption that goes over your eyes. In kind of reminds me of the ViewMaster toy I had when I was a kid.

By itself, the headset doesn’t really do anything. To get the 3D magic, you need to use it in conjunction with your smartphone. As long as your smartphone is in the 3.5″ – 6″ size range, it will work.

To “load” your smartphone into the headset, you simple snap open the front cover, slide your smartphone into place and then close the cover. A small magnet on the cover makes sure the cover doesn’t pop open while your phone is inside.

What you can watch

Once you have everything in place, it’s time to enjoy some 3D content. You can choose to download a Virtual Reality (VR) app from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android) or you can search for “3D SBS” on YouTube.

The “SBS” is the important part. It stands for Side By Side which means the video is really split into two parts—a left part and a right part. One for each eye. That’s how they achieve the 3D effect.

I used the BlitzWolf VR Glasses Virtual Reality Headset with a couple of 3D SBS videos on YouTube and admittedly, some were better than others. The best one I found was more of a 3D demo which I’ve embedded below. You can watch the video but just know that it will look really weird if you’re not watching it through the virtual reality headset. Oh, and one more thing, if you hate snakes as much as I do, you’re not going to do well with the first part of this video. I’m not ashamed to admit I had to take the glasses off until that scene was over!

Ajustable for a custom fit

One last thing I want to mention. The BlitzWolf VR Glasses Virtual Reality Headset is adjustable to your eyes in two ways. One way is to use the dial on top to adjust the pupil distance from 55m to 75mm. This is crucial as without this, your eyes might go batty trying to bring the two side-by-side images into focus. The second adjustment is with a dial on either side of the headset. These can be used to adjust the focal distance (move the display forward or back).
