Blogging at 70 miles per hour

I’ve been blogging for a long time now but there is still something in the blogosphere I have never attempted. Blogging at 70 miles per hour.

No, I wasn’t driving. I’m not that crazy! But I was a passenger in a car traveling down the Interstate on my way home from Thanksgiving vacation.

My original plan was to write yesterday’s blog post about buying new release DVDs at Blockbuster when I got home last night. Lucky for me I had the technology on-hand to do it earlier because my trip home ended up taking an additional three hours due to horrible road conditions.

How did I do it?

So how did I blog at 70 miles per hour? Well, for starters I had my fully-charged laptop with me. I also had my Verizon Wireless enV2 mobile phone which serves as a tethered modem. They call it that because the mobile phone doubles as a modem and connects (tethers) to your computer via a USB cable. That’s all a fancy way of saying it gets you on the Internet.

It takes more than a laptop and a tethered modem, however, though to pull off an truly mobile Internet connection. You also need to have an appropriate data plan from your wireless carrier. In my case, I pay an additional $59.99 per month for the type of Internet data access I am describing.

With all of these pieces in place, I was easily able to boot up my laptop, write my blog post and then connect to the Internet using my mobile phone to publish the blog post to the Noobie web site.

Really cool or really sad? I’ll let you decide. Either way, I’ve now blogged at 70 miles per hour.
