BlueG looks and feels like the old iGoogle (and that’s a good thing)

BlueGA few months ago, I wrote this blog post answering a question from a reader who asked me if there were any good alternatives to iGoogle, which was shut down by Google on November 1, 2013.

In that blog post I mentioned the best alternatives I knew of at that time. Since then, however, a representative from a company called BlueG contacted me and asked me to check out their own iGoogle alternative. What caught my eye when I checked out BlueG is that it looked strikingly familiar to the discontinued iGoogle interface.

Better yet, BlueG is compatible with all of the existing iGoogle gadgets and themes meaning iGoogle users can pretty much create the same “dashboard” of gadgets on BlueG that they had with iGoogle.

Here are a few other benefits of the BlueG service:

  • BlueG includes over 10,000 iGoogle gadgets and hundreds of themes.
  • BlueG does not include ads on the user’s personal page.
  • BlueG replicates iGoogle’s “Canvas view” where you can maximize a gadget full page simply by clicking a title bar button.
  • BlueG enables any news feeds to be added in seconds – just like iGoogle.
  • BlueG has integrated popular interest channels such as Music, Entertainment, Games, Gadgets, Sport and Fashion with channel sensitive search capabilities.

If you really miss your iGoogle home page, I highly recommend checking out BlueG if for no other reason than it looks and feels just like your old iGoogle page.
