Carbonite worries about my backups for me

CarboniteAs a small business owner, I have enough things to worry about. Which is why I’ve always been such a big fan of the Carbonite backup service. I don’t have to remember to do anything. I just walk away from my computer and minutes later, any files I created are safely backed up to the Internet.

Recently, I discovered another nice benefit of Carbonite. It warns you when it hasn’t been able to do its job. I discovered this when I went away to Florida for spring break and shut down my desktop computer while I was gone. Don’t worry, I still I had my laptop with me.

Alert: Your backup is 1 week overdue

Exactly 7 days after I left for Florida, I received this email from Carbonite:

Dear Patric,

We’re writing to alert you that your computer [NAME OMITTED] has not contacted our backup servers for one week, and your backup may not be up to date.

The email then went on to list steps to take based on whether or not my computer was on or off during the past 7 days. Of course, since my computer was off, all I needed to do was turn it back on, which is exactly what I did when I returned from Florida. And then Carbonite quickly jumped back into action and made sure my backups were once again up to date.

Now, if only Carbonite could remind me not to forget my toothpaste the next time I go to Florida.

P.S. If anyone is interested in learning more about the Carbonite service or setting it up on your computer, please email me at [email protected]
