Child “goof” your laptop with the Kid Lid

Kid Lid Fold Up

It’s not uncommon for a parent to pull up a video for their toddler on their laptop. Or to use the laptop’s built-in webcam to do a video chat so grandma and grandpa can see how their little grandson or granddaughter is doing.

What is uncommon, however, is for a parent to have a dedicated laptop just for their children. Usually, the laptop is the parent’s personal laptop which means they still want to keep it nice and orderly for their own use.

If you’ve ever seen a toddler use their hands to bang away at the keys on a laptop, you know that keeping a toddler from messing up your laptop is no easy task.

Kid Lid to the rescue

This is the problem the Kid Lid aims to fix. The Kid Lid is a cover (aka lid) that covers up the entire bottom half of your laptop, including the keyboard and the mouse pad. The idea is that, with the Kid Lid in place, you can set your toddler in front of your laptop without any danger of her accidentally pressing a key, launching a program or deleting an important file.

One side of the Kid Lid is secured around your laptop screen and the other is secured via an attached velcro strap.

The Kid Lid comes in two variations. The first is the Kid Lid Protect Board which is essentially one rigid lid. The second is the Kid Lid Fold Up which folds accordion style into three sections. The latter has the advantage of being able to fold up the last section of the Kid Lid when a parent needs to briefly get to the mouse pad. The Kid Lid Fold Up is also easier to store since it folds down into one-third of the size as the Kid Lid Protect Board.

Both versions come in 13″ and 15″ sizes and work for both Macs and PCs. The cost as of this writing for the Kid Lid Protect Board is $27 and $37 for the Kid Lid Fold Up. You can find out more about the Kid Lid by visiting kidlid.com.
