How to make sure your cell phone isn’t a spy phone

“Who’s turn it?”

“I think it’s my turn.”

“What’s the score now?”

“5-2.”

That’s the conversation my sister had the privilege of listening to from over 50 miles away thanks to my new Env2 cell phone.

How did this happen? She called me when I was outside with my family playing a game of bocce ball. My cell phone was in my pocket. Apparently, not only did I not hear my cell phone ringing but I also accidentally bumped a key when it was ringing which answered the phone and let my sister listen to my entire conversation until she grew tired of it.

I’m not bad-mouthing my new Env2 phone. Not at all. But I do hope that people reading this can learn a lesson on my behalf. Whenever you get a new cell phone, take some time to go through the menu options, particularly the call options. That’s what I did after I found out what happened and set my phone to only answer when a specific key is pressed instead of any key.

This is also when I realized that I didn’t have the vibrate option enabled even if the ringer was turned on. That’s the reason I didn’t know my sister was calling in the first place. I couldn’t hear my phone ringing because I was outdoors and my cell phone was in my pocket. If that happens again, the phone vibration should help me realize someone is calling.

So take the time to get to know your new cell phone. Or start choosing your words very carefully.
