Hurry now and get a $25 gift card for only $26!

I’m a big fan of eBay, mainly because there’s a never-ending audience for things you are trying to sell that you think no one would ever want to buy. Take for instance the used irrigation system controller I sold on eBay for $38 after the service man who was upgrading the system told me he was going to throw it away. Or the bundle of typewriter supplies I sold on behalf of a client of mine on eBay for $21, just when you thought the typewriter was extinct.

But what I don’t like about eBay are the unfortunate people that get tricked into buying something because they didn’t read the item listing carefully enough. Take this listing for instance. Is it just me or is someone on eBay about to get ripped off?

eBay Target $25 Gift Card

That’s right. Someone just bid $26.00 for a $25.00 Target gift card. Am I missing something here? Is there an underground black market for Target gift cards somewhere that would make it worthwhile to hoard them on eBay even if you have to pay more than the face value on the gift card? I just don’t get it.

Incidentally, I checked back three and a half minutes later when this auction ended. The bidder who bid $26.00 won the auction. Shock.
