Which iPhone is the fastest?

Every time a new generation of a smarthone is released, I automatically assume it’s faster than its predecessor. In other other words, an iPhone 5S should be faster than an iPhone 5 which should be faster than an iPhone 4S or iPhone 4.

Truth is, each new phone usually just has a faster processor. But if you double the speed and then give the processor three times as much work? Is it really still considered faster?
