Kyle Lacy does presentations right

It’s no secret. I despise PowerPoint presentations. They are almost always jammed with too many words jammed between too many bullets. And they serve as a crutch for presenters who feel the audience will be more informed if they can read along with what the presenter is saying.

I have probably given over 50 (maybe even closer to 100) presentations since starting Noobie 4 years ago and I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve used a PowerPoint presentation. And all of those were against my better judgment or the result of peer pressure.

So why am I telling you this? Do I want the world to hate PowerPoint presentations along with me? Not at all.

Breaking the rules

I’m telling you this because I found a guy who breaks all the rules. He uses PowerPoint (actually they are Keynote) presentations well. Actually, better than well. They are fantastic.

Why? Because they complement his presentation. They don’t distract me from what he is saying. Quite the opposite. They add to what he is saying.

I’m talking specifically about Kyle Lacy, co-founder and business development head of Brandswag and author of Twitter Marketing for Dummies.

Driving Leads Through Twitter and Facebook

I recently heard Kyle give his Driving Leads Through Twitter and Facebook presentation at Blog Indiana 2010. I absolutely loved the presentation. And not once during Kyle’s presentation did I find myself reading his slides. Instead they shined behind him like little pieces of art setting the mood and tone for the presentation.

This is the first time I have heard Kyle give a presentation. I’m already looking forward to the next time.
