Why your next computer must have turbo boost

Intel Core i5 Processor with Turbo BoostYou know what I love about technology? You can sell a zillion more units of anything if you just add random letter and number combinations to your existing product name. Sure the iPhone was cool. But nowhere near as cool as the iPhone 3G or 3G-S. And while we all fell in love with Windows years ago, we knew we just had to upgrade to Windows XP.

It doesn’t actually matter what these letters and numbers mean. They just sound cool. I mean, c’mon, if you had a choice between Sliced Bread and Sliced Bread enriched with T21 which would you choose? And yes, I just made up T21.

The latest contender to the game seems to be Intel. Last night I saw a commercial for their new Core i5 processor that boasted a new turbo boost feature.

It doesn’t matter that we don’t have a clue what i5 is. Or for that matter how turbo boost really makes our computing life any better. We just know that a Core i5 Processor with Turbo Boost has to be better than a Core i5 Processor without it.

By the way, in case you are curious, the Intel i5-540M has 2 cores / 4 threads, a clock speed of 2.53 GHz (up to 3.06 GHz with turbo boost), a 3MB smart cache, 32 nm transistors and Intel’s Hyper-Threading Technology.
