10 Years of YouTube Video, Including 8 of My Favorites

YouTube 10th Anniversary

How long do you think YouTube has been around? Give yourself 5 points if you answered 10 years (only 1 point if you cheated and looked at the headline).

During those 10 years, a lot of viral videos have come and gone. Some of them I had even completely forgotten about until I stumbled upon a 10th anniversary video put together by Zapatou (Luc Bergeron).

The video contains clips from 198 of the most viral and memorable videos from the past 10 years. It’s fun to watch and even more fun to try and guess the videos from the clips as they fly by.

My favorites

Here are some of my favorites, starting with the very first YouTube video ever posted titled, “Me at the zoo”.

And then of course, one of the most famous videos ever on YouTube, “Charlie bit my finger”.

Then there’s the video that you should watch whenever you are feeling down in the dumps or could just use a little pick-me-up. It’s nearly impossible not to smile or laugh while watching, “Baby Laughing Hysterically at Ripping Paper”.

Of course, YouTube wouldn’t be complete without the strange videos that shouldn’t be funny but are. Like screaming sheep that sound like humans, which led to screaming goats which led to a entire screaming animal phenomenon.

Stupidity also reigns supreme on YouTube. Take for instance the guy who decided to high jump into his pool in the middle of winter. Reasonable idea (maybe) but he probably should have made sure the pool hadn’t frozen over first.

Catch the Ice Dude

What does the fox say? I’m still not sure but I do know that we were all talking about (and singing this) video for several weeks.

Four guys dancing on treadmills to a catchy tune? It’s YouTube gold and I never grow tired of watching it (and wondering how long it took them to rehearse this to get it right).

OK Go - Here It Goes Again

And finally, probably the craziest stunt I’ve ever witnessed on YouTube, Felix Baumgartner jumping out of a spacecraft 128,100 feet above the surface, and free falling with nothing but a parachute safely back to Earth.

These are just a handful of my favorites. You can view all 198 of the clips in the full video below. Also for the curious or for those who just want to know what all of the videos are, here is the full playlist with the 198 videos in order.
