What is it?
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is an Android-based tablet and competitor to Apple’s iPad.
Why you should love it
The Galaxy Tab comes in two different sizes—a 7″ model and a 10″ model. The 7″ model is priced at nearly half the price making it a more affordable option for many people who don’t have $500 or more to shell out for a brand new tablet.
Note: Apple announced a smaller version of its iPad dubbed the iPad Mini on October 23rd.
The Galaxy Tab 2 also boasts several Android-ish features you won’t find on iOS devices like the iPad. Specifically, things like expandable memory using microSD cards, app widgets and IR blasters which let you use your tablet as a fancy remote control for your television.
The Galaxy Tab 2 also has a series of “hubs” making managing your music, videos and books much easier.
Why you should leave it
The Galaxy Tab 2 falls a bit short when it comes to screen and camera resolution when compared to the iPad. If these are important to you, the iPad may be more your cup of tea.
The Galaxy Tab 2 has a higher learning curve than the iPad. It may be worthwhile in the end to learn the features but there’s something to be said for Apple’s “clean and simple” approach to their designs.
And if you need help with your device, odds are better that your neighbor will have an iPad rather than a Galaxy Tab 2.
