Scam Alert: “I am calling you from Windows”

A new scam may be heading to a phone near you. The scam involves a phone call from a person claiming to be “from Windows” (not Microsoft).

The person will explain that he has received alerts that your computer is infected with viruses and will offer to help you resolve the problem.

The so-called resolution is for the person to ask you to give him permission to connect to your computer at which point he will do a bunch of fake checks and trick you into finding the problem.

Next, he will ask for money to fix the problem which never existed in the first place.

If you receive this call, just hang up or report it to the authorities. Better yet, do both.
