What do you think of Windows 8? [POLL]

I’ve had Windows 8 installed on my laptop now for a couple of weeks. And I really, really don’t like it. Don’t get me wrong, I think the new start screen (dubbed “Metro”) is gorgeous. And I can actually seeing this type of interface being the future of home computing.

But at the same time I am cursed with the knowledge of how to do things the old way. Which means the new interface tends to get in my way.

It all reminds me of when Microsoft got rid of menus in Office 2007 and went to the new ribbon bar. People who had never used Office before had no trouble with it. But people used to previous versions struggled trying to adapt. Personally, I don’t even think about it any more. I adapted to the ribbon interface and now actually kind of like it.

I’m really not sure though I’ll be able to say the same with Windows 8. Unlike the redesign of Office, Windows 8 feels very much like a tablet interface running on a computer. And therein lies the problem. A tablet has a touch interface. A computer has a keyboard and a mouse.

Yes, I’m aware you can get touch interfaces for the computer but I don’t want one. I like my keyboard and mouse. Could it be I’m taking my first step to being “old school?”
