If you’re an Xfinity video customer, you already know that one of the coolest features of X1 is the Xfinity voice commands available using your voice remote. It makes searching for your favorite TV entertainment a whole lot easier. But did you know that there are hundreds of spoken commands that the remote control understands? Your options go far beyond opening menus and switching channels.

With the simple push of the microphone button, you can tune directly to a channel, find television shows and movies starring a specific actor or actress, start a new recording, and do a whole lot more.

While I can’t go through every possible voice command in this article, I want to point out a few that will make your life easier. Here’s a short list to get you started.

Note: If you are unfamiliar with how the Xfinity Voice Remote works, Xfinity has a helpful Voice Remote FAQ page that will teach you everything you need to know.

1. Jump Directly to a Channel

Tired of scrolling through the guide to find a specific channel because you can’t remember the channel number? Next time, use the voice feature on your Xfinity remote and just speak the name of the channel you want to watch. For example, say “ESPN” to go to ESPN. “HGTV” to jump to HGTV. You get the idea.

If you do happen to know the channel number, you can say that as well. For example, saying “1202” into your remote will immediately change the channel to channel 1202.

2. View Your Recordings

Ready to spend the night catching up on your favorite recorded shows? No need to navigate on-screen menus to get to your recordings. Instead, say, “Go to my recordings,” and your list of recorded shows will appear on the screen.

3. Find Something New to Watch

Need a break from your recorded shows and want to watch something new? Speak “What should I watch?” into your remote, and Xfinity will bring up an easy-to-navigate list of shows and movies it thinks you might be interested in.

Are you a fan of keeping up with trending movies and TV shows? The X1 voice remote helps you stay on top of the latest and greatest television shows and movies other people are watching. Ask your remote “What’s trending?” and a list of popular television shows and movies will appear on the screen.

5. Shows Like This

Did you recently finish a movie you really liked and wish you could watch more like it? Say, “Show me more like (movie name),” and Xfinity will do the research for you. For example, if you really liked the movie The Invisible Man, press and hold the microphone button on your Xfinity remote and say, “Show me more like The Invisible Man.”

6. Free Entertainment for Your Kids

Want a low-budget (or no-budget) night of fun with the kids? Say “free movies for kids” into your Xfinity remote to see a list of free-to-watch movies suitable for your kids. Select the flick your kids like most, and movie night is on! Popcorn and drinks are on you, though.

7. Tune in to the Big Game

Not sure which channel is carrying your favorite team’s basketball, football, or hockey game? Speak “Turn on the (team name) ‘s game” into your Xfinity remote to tune directly to the right channel. This works for all popular sports.

Even when your favorite team isn’t playing, you can find the sports you want to watch quickly. Try saying “What games are on?” “Monday Night Football” or “Golf” to find a competition or match you will enjoy.

8. Closed Captioning

Having trouble hearing or understanding the dialogue in a movie? Say “Turn on closed captioning” into your remote, and Xfinity will immediately start displaying the closed captions. If you no longer want or need the captions, just say “Turn off closed captioning.” It’s that easy.

9. WiFi Information

This one is for Xfinity customers with both television and internet service. Next time a guest comes to your house and asks for your WiFi information, grab your Xfinity remote and say, “What’s my WiFi information?”. Point your guest to the information on the screen, and you’re done.

Hint: This one is also useful when you buy a new internet-enabled device and can’t remember your own WiFi password!

10. Billing Information

Do you want to know when your next bill is due, how much it will be, or how many on-demand movies your kids have purchased? Say “View my bill” into your Xfinity remote to see all your billing information right on your television screen.

11. Exercise

With all these cool, new ways to enjoy your Xfinity television, remember to take a break once in a while to get some exercise in. Fortunately, with Xfinity, you don’t always have to drive to your local gym or fitness center. You can get your exercise right inside your home! Just say, “Exercise” into your Xfinity remote to get immediate access to Fitness Workouts, Gaiam, Grokker, FitFusion, Daily Burn, TouchFit, and more.

Remember, these are just a handful of voice commands you can use with your Xfinity television system. Xfinity often provides on-screen hints for voice commands it thinks might be useful to you, so be sure to watch your television screen to learn some new voice-command tricks.
