Get ready for an onslaught of Android Wear devices

Wearable technology is gaining traction fast and it’s about to get faster. Devices like the Fitbit and Samsung’s Galaxy Gear smartwatch are already big hits but, thanks to Google, the market is about to explode with new devices.

Why? Because Google is bringing a flavor of its Android operating system, called Android Wear, to the wearable tech world. This is different than what we’ve seen so far. Android Wear isn’t a product. It’s a platform that pretty much any company (except Apple I’m guessing) can license and integrate to their own device.

So much like the Android operating system brought us smartphones from Samsung, Motorola (before Google bought them), HTC, LG and others, we should start seeing wearable tech devices from these same companies, all based on the Android Wear platform.
