Hey Google, I don’t need MORE notifications!

So this little message recently started appearing near the top of my Google Mail:

Being the curious type, I clicked the Learn more link and found this:

Desktop notifications in Chrome

Gmail desktop notifications let you know when you have a new email or Chat message. When you enable these notifications, you’ll see a pop-up when new messages arrive so that even if you’re not looking at your Gmail, you’ll still know when someone wants to talk to you. For now, these notifications are available only if you use Google Chrome as your browser.

Now I normally like and embrace Google’s new features like the recent Priority Inbox, but this one does nothing for me.

Hey Google… Newsflash! I don’t need more notifications. I have enough interruptions in my day as it is. Thank you for playing though. We have a nice consolation prize for you on the way out.
