I listened to myself on TiVo

Followers of my blog have no doubt heard me rave about TiVo and my TiVo high definition digital video recorders (HD DVRs). Well, just when I thought I had discovered all of the TiVo features, I found a new one. One that allowed me to hear my own voice playing on my television through the TiVo box.

How did I accomplish this? It was actually pretty easy. One of the Internet-enabled features on TiVo these days is the ability to listen to podcasts. You can choose from the most popular podcasts circulating the Internet such as NPR, Car Talk and more. But there is also a feature to plug in the podcast feed address of any podcast you want that may not already be listed as a featured podcast.

I couldn’t resist using the enter your own feed option to plug in feeds.feedburner.com/mrnoobie, the podcast feed address for the Mr. Noobie Podcast. Although it took me a long time to enter that address using only my remote control, the payoff was worth it. Within seconds of telling my TiVo I was done entering the podcast feed address, I saw a list of the Mr. Noobie Podcast weekly shows along with their associated show notes. I selected the most recent show and instantly heard the intro to my show followed by my discussion of a Noobie presentation I did last week.

I may not be a world-wide phenomenon yet, but I sure am famous in my living room!
