TILTS: “Like” songs you hear on the radio

Technology I'd Like to See (TILTS)We do it all day long on Facebook. We see something we like and we click the “Like” link. It’s our little way of giving a head-nod or a thumbs-up to the person who originally posted the content.

So why can’t we do this in other areas of our life? Like when we listen to the radio in our car.

Today’s Technology I’d Like to See (TILTS) is a car radio with a “Like” button. With this new feature, whenever we hear a song we like in our car, we push the like button. Not only would this give the music industry a great pulse for who likes (or doesn’t like) what they are playing on the radio but it could also increase sales of music.

Integrates with my favorite music services

Why? Because I want my radio’s like button to store my likes in the cloud somewhere. Then when I get back home, I want to be able to automatically integrate them with my Spotify playlist. Others might integrate their list with iTunes or Amazon. The service should work with any music service.

Point being, I may be tempted to purchase the songs I liked when I get back home. Or in my case, when I add them to my Spotify playlist, I will listen to them more which also puts a little change in the musician’s pocket.

Not the same as Shazam

For the record, I know the Shazam app already identifies songs and stores your selections. But I shouldn’t have to identify the song. The radio station already knows what they are playing. Plus, I don’t want to have to fish for my smartphone and operate it while I’m driving to pull this off.

Rather, I just want to hit the “Like” button on my radio.

Disclaimer: Technologies presented in the Technology I’d Like To See (TILTS) series are based on my original (and sometimes delirious) thoughts. I present them here to the public only because I can not afford to implement any of them myself. If you steal borrow one of my ideas and end up filthy rich because of it, please remember where you got the idea and throw a little love my way. Something like a BMW or a big fat check would do just fine.
