A recurring theme I hear from my business clients is that they are overwhelmed by technology. It seems every time they turn around, there’s another technology company knocking on their door telling them how their product or service will revolutionize their business. And often, these business owners fear being left behind if they don’t adapt quickly.

The good news is that these business owners are not alone. In a recent survey conducted by Wakefield Research, about two-thirds of business owners feel overwhelmed by technology. So what are they supposed to do?

Comcast Business dove straight into this problem and created an infographic titled, The 3 Keys to Smarter Tech Investments. I’m embedding the infographic below but let me comment on a few highlights first.

Know your market

I have to deal with this one constantly in my business. For example, while Snapchat is being praised as the next big thing in social media, it literally makes no sense for me to jump on board with it for my business because there’s very little chance that my audience will take to Snapchat. I’m better off concentrating on social media platforms that my audience relates to more even if it may not be the trendiest one.

Know exactly which needs or problems you want technology to solve

You’ve heard the phrase, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, right? Well, it definitely applies to technology too. If you only receive a handful of customer service requests every month, there really is no need to use a full-service ticketing system to track all of your requests. It’s just overkill and it creates more work than you want.

Find a trusted advisor

This is probably the best piece of advice. In the tech world we love the phrase, “Don’t reinvent the wheel”. If someone already is doing something that would work for your business as well, talk to them about how it might work for you.

One technology you shouldn’t have to worry about

Of all the business technologies you will ever embrace, I can’t think of one more important than your Internet connection. Without the Internet, many businesses are out of business—which makes Comcast Business a good choice.

Comcast Business has over 1,900 live, specially trained Business Service representatives that you can reach within about 30 seconds. And if your Internet connection is disrupted, they won’t stop until it’s fixed. Plus, they have convenient installation times including nights and weekends to minimize disruptions to your business.
