YouTube says no more anonymous comments and Conan agrees

If you haven’t heard yet, YouTube made a change to its commenting system such that people can no longer leave anonymous comments. This has some people (like me) happy and others upset.

I applaud it because it makes it more difficult for people to act like cowards online, posting filthy, rude and disrespectful (I could go on) comments on videos that they would never say to someone’s face.

It also makes it easier for YouTube to police the comments, banning people who spam video comments with things like money-making promotions or political rants and raves. All of which usually have nothing to do with the video itself.

On the flip side, I can see it being a bit of a pain now for some people to leave comment since Google’s answer to not being anonymous is that each person commenting is required to have a Google+ account.

Conan O’Brien had a bit of fun with this new change on a recent show. And of course, he posted it to YouTube.
