Have we gone too far with the selfie?

Selfies are everywhere and are part of our mainstream culture now. You’ll find them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. An now we even have celebrities getting together to take a selfie at the Academy Awards.

Despite the popularity of selfies, they are still relatively difficult to take. At least to take and still look good. If you don’t believe me, try a few yourself. You’ll learn quickly there’s an art to taking a good selfie.

However, the people at iStrategyLabes are aiming to make selfies as easy as looking into the mirror. In fact, with their product that’s all you need to do—because the mirror takes your picture.

Their product is called the Self Enhancing Live Feed Image Engine, or S.E.L.F.I.E. See what they did there? It consists of a two-way with a Mac mini and a webcam stored behind it. The equipment uses facial recognition to detect when you are looking into the mirror and then snaps a selfie for you and shares it to your Twitter account with a watermarked logo.

Don’t worry though, there are indicator lights on the mirror to let you know when your photo is being taken. Even so, I’m not so sure I’m ready to install one of these in my bathroom yet.

What do you think? Would you use a S.E.L.F.I.E.? Have we gone too far with selfies this time? Leave a comment below and share your thoughts.
